20 Things You Didn't Know About Living In Space
Everyone wants to grow up to be a fireman, actress, teacher, etc. I wanted to be an actress but I also wanted to be an Astronaut. More than anything. I was good with math, enjoyed science and knew I probably needed to be an Air Force pilot to reach my dream. I grew to 5'3" in 5th grade and reigned as the tallest girl for most of that year. Then 6th grade started and it was apparent everyone else was zooming past me in the height department. In middle school I told my dad I wanted to enroll in the Air Force and be a stealth bomber pilot and then become an astronaut. He kindly informed me that all pilots need to be in a certain height range: 5'6"-5'9" . . . I was crushed. Stupid 3 inches! I understand there is no such thing as a "booster seat" for fighter jets but come on!
Regardless, I still dream about space travel even though the reality of it scares the crap out of me. I don't even like flying in a plane. But it IS nice to know that in theory I could survive in the vacuum of space for 2 minutes :D
*Side note: I didn't even notice how well the title of this post would end up tying into my astronaut story. Funny.
