There was some crazy accident that SHUT DOWN the Golden Gate bridge this morning, thus I had to work from home. BOOO! I HATE working from home. 1) Its lonely. 2) Accomplishing anything is 10x harder ... can't just stop by someone's office for a quick chat. And 3) I feel like everyone else has to pick up my slack.

And some random person tweeted me and recommend I work at a free wi-fi coffee shop ... honestly never even occurred to me. But I hate those people who have work convos from coffee shops. Plus, if I had spent the day in a Starbucks I wouldn't have been able to hang with these bitches:

One of the biggest names in my profession is Alex Bogusky. I have never met the man nor do I ever intend to so many of my opinions of him are based upon rumors and personal accounts of friends and friends of friends ... that is to say, completely biased.

I decided long ago I would never work at his former employer Crispin Porter. Not solely because of Alex, mostly I never want to work in a "sweat shop" environment again. But this is neither here nor there. In this post I want to comment on rich people who "all of a sudden" decide to forsake their profession and "try to change the world." Granted, I don't think Alex has ever said he wanted to change the world but its basically the gist of all his prancing around making such a bold statement.

I commend him for recognizing that he was no longer being fulfilled by his day to day but so far, the "changes" I've seen him making are so self-serving, so fame-mongering, and just so Alex Bogusky. I'm so damn tired of people with more money than they know what to do with simply using that money to further their own egos while pretending its for the greater good. This goes for all rich people (especially actors) doing the same thing.

I would love to see one rich person put all that money into a program that is solely designed to support recent college grads in making a difference in the world. There have been times where I would love to quit my job and work for companies that really do make a difference but unfortunately momma didn't get a 3.7 GPA in college and momma needs to pay her student loans, rent, etc etc. Shouldn't the older generations be working to empower my generation, the generation getting raped by the economy? Put all that money towards showing my generation that we don't have to "sell out" to actually support ourselves, that we can take 3 months off of our jobs to go help with an oil spill without worrying how we're going to make our loan payments.

It bothers me to have some rich, white dude telling me to only buy local grown, organic produce (which costs an arm and a leg and goes bad in two days) or to get rid of the car that gets me to work everyday since I can't afford to live near my work. Of course he can take the time to make a difference, he has the money to do it ... he also won't have to live with 5 other people in a closet and work 2 other jobs to pay his rent. *sigh* It all just seems so phony to me. Like Julia Butterfly. I could live in a tree for a year too if I had a trust fund waiting for me when I came down.

Where are the programs that will support my mediocre student-self while I try to help the world that feels like its imploding around me? Where are the jobs that will let me take a sabbatical to do just that? Why should I have to wait until I'm 46 and loaded (ha, yeah right) to begin making a difference?

I have a severe aversion to ever going to bed before midnight. I don't know why. When I lived in Boston I was in bed by 10pm on the dot most of the time. Maybe because I no longer work 12 hours a day? I personally think its because there are so many things I want to do in the little free time I have.

- go to the gym
- download new music
- play with the cat
- laundry
- cook new recipes
- tidy the apartment
- go out
- start drawing and painting again
- refresh my French speaking skills

The list could really go on and on. There honestly just aren't enough hours in the day. I'm not a huge fan of living in SF but just the idea of how much extra time I might have if I moved across the bridge makes it so damn tempting. Agh. Next time around I'm getting an apartment within walking distance of my job.

Ever so often I lurk on amazing designer clothes and end up slobbering all over my keyboard and hiding my credit card. Tonight was one of those times and I found a couple gems I'll be dreaming about.

I saw a dress from Twelfth Street by Cynthia Lee a month or two ago and fell in love with the print but not the dress. And now I've found a different style with the same print, and its BEAUTIFUL.

As it turns out I love LOVE Twelfth Street dresses. I'm seriously considering purchasing the dress below to wear to the 4 (and counting) weddings I'll be attending over the next 2 years. Its perfect for summer/spring weddings and classy but still fun and vibrant. Only $300 ugh. Guess I'll be eating ramen for the next couple months.

I also found this AMAZING oversized shrug from Juicy Couture and I am so not a Juicy lover but this sweater looks crazy comfy. Its also CRAZY expensive ($248) *CRY*. I need a raise PRONTO! Seriously, as soon as I can afford to, I'm going to start indulging and buying myself some super nice (and apparently super expensive) clothes.

I've been moving into my new studio apartment this past week (and for the next month) and I was quite literally disgusted by the amount of stuff I have accumulated since moving back from Boston almost two years ago! I'm also disgusted by the amount of perfectly good stuff I left in Boston because replacing all that shit is EXPENSIVE. :( I'm currently couchless and will probably remain so until I convince my mom to buy a new one and take her old one.

On the upside, this move has finally motivated me to get my 13 or so art prints framed. I started with these:

I've had the Zombirella art print for about 4 years (ooops) so I figured I should probably put that shit in a frame so it retains some form of value, hehe. And if you know me, The Hives poster is a no-brainer. What up skullflower! Also good to know, that Hives poster is now worth about $300! Daaaaamn. The next to be framed will be:

Unfortunately The Bravery poster got a tad scratched at some point :( I was obsessed with that poster for about a year and by the time I FINALLY decided to buy it, it was no longer available ANYWHERE. By happy chance, I was visiting Boston and remembered Newbury Comics had one about 7 months before . . . and they still had it!!! Yay. I'll still have about 7 more to frame after these three but at about $70 a pop, I CANNOT afford to frame them all. I mean, REALLY AARON BROTHERS??? $70 for your cheapest frame (I know, I used to work there) and some not-that-great glass? I even saved $20 because I put it together myself. And honestly, I only put it together myself because I remember how artwork is treated in the back room. You only need to see someone gouge a priceless Betty Page lithograph with the edge of some glass ONE TIME before you know you'll NEVER let them touch your artwork. And it was real nice of them to not enclose the glass in foam core so I still need to buy some nice acid-free backing. Jackasses. There's always a huge sale going on at Michael's for custom framing but I haven't decided if I'll even dare let them measure the posters, people used to come to Aaron Bros. all the time to get their botched Michael's framing jobs fixed. Uuuuugh. Does anyone know of a decent (non-crazy expensive) framing shop in the North Bay?? Help a sister (and her awesome posters) out!

So I've been pretty bored with this whole blogger/blogspot set up. My HTML skills peaced out long ago and lately I just haven't had time for epically long blog posts.

Thus:

A friend mentioned Flavors.me on facebook a week or so ago, and loving all new web things, I checked it out. It's still in the Beta stage (thank god) but I gave them my email and less than a day later, I was in. It's a pretty basic (but ingenious) aggregator of various personal accounts like Tumblr, Flickr, Last.fm, Netflix, Twitter, etc. There aren't many customizing options but I'm sure that will change as people test it out and build upon it.

Pros:
I like that it allows me to have one place where friends/stalkers can see my Netflix queue, Twitter feed, and Good Reads bookshelf. Perhaps you're looking for a new book to enjoy? Czech out all the awesome vampire/romance/trashy goodness I read :)

Cons:
Last.fm is pretty lame, wish you could import Pandora or your iTunes and you can't synch your blogger feed. You can import any RSS but then you lose any video you may have posted . . . thus:

TUMBLR
I tried out Tumblr about 2 years ago (and sadly don't remember my login so buh-bye thekungfaux.tumblr.com) and wasn't impressed. It seemed WAY too ADD for what I was looking for at the time. However, with the lack of blogger compatibility on Flavors.me and after checking out a few friends Tumblrs, I decided to give it another chance. I'm REALLY digging it so I'll probably be posting more and more over there. Sorry Blogger. The templates are nothing to write home about but I may try to see if one of my friends who rules at HTML will help me build a legit site on it.

Pros:
I love how quickly and easily I can post pictures, video, a link, or a quote. I also really like the "re-blogging" feature, some people have awesome posts.

Cons:
I don't like how multiple pictures become a slide show instead of sequence of pictures.

This poor dude lost his forearm and hand in a car accident but now he has a freaking ROBOT HAND!!!! Just like Luke Skywalker :D Granted, the robohand isn't attached to his arm and scientists haven't perfected the life-like skin cover but come on, ROBOHAND!

Life is CRAZY right now! I'm literally running on overdrive every day. Thanksgiving was spent sleeping, hanging out in sweats, eating, and not leaving the house until Saturday night when we went to get the lamest tree ever. Seriously, the tree is so short we had to put it up on blocks . . . I wish that last sentence wasn't true. But I digress, Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I'm pretty proud to say that due to some new neighbors my street is damn festive. For the last year or so I've relished the idea of owning a leather-bound collection of Shakespeare's works. Or Steinbeck. Or Edgar Allen Poe. However, I don't quite have the whole super nice library where leather-bound books belong :(

Enter Penguin books. Yes, they publish many fine tomes but THESE are fucking fantastic. Yay for design-y covers that won't look out of place in my ikea-like room. Seriously, 90% of my book purchasing decisions are based on cover art. And don't even get me started on book series that CHANGE THEIR COVER ART. Argh. Makes me want to punch Charlie. Totally remembered that Neal and I ordered FADERADE at Chromeo. That's right, gatorade + vodka. Because we roll HIGH CLASS! Doesn't matter that Neal straight up smacked it out of my hand when I was only halfway through because I still drank half of it, now that's optimism.

Went out on Saturday night to Mezzanine with my boy Neal to see Chromeo. It was LIFE-CHANGING! Quite possibly the best dance party of my life! And yes, my flash basically bleaches out everything, whatevs. And please notice that the photos slowly get closer and closer to the stage. As all my concert going buddies are aware I am a MASTER at sketching to the front and then staying there for the rest of the show. I literally had my mind blown when they mixed in E-40's Tell Me When to Go (favorite hyphy song EVER!), I Got 5 On It, and then ended on Bone Thugs' Crossroads. I want to relive this night!!

With my client on vacation, my account manager switching to another account, and only one project on the table things are pretty quiet around here. I mean, I still have billing and budgets and various little things to take care of but that takes all of 1 hour at most. So begins the brain vomit:

When I started working at Modernista! 3 (holy shit) years ago I never thought I'd work in Account Management. I wanted to be a producer SO badly and I did everything they asked so they would promote me but after awhile it became obvious that it wasn't going to happen. So I moved back to California and started the quest again. Random circumstances have led me into Account Management at GS&P and I absolutely LOVE IT! The longer I've been in my job and the more I work with producers, the less I actually want to be one. And that realization came when I realized if I was going to be a producer, I wanted to be a MOVIE producer. I don't want to sit in editing/animation studios generating the billionth estimate/schedule for clients and fending off angry vendors that haven't been paid. I want to be on the set, getting my hands dirty, talking to people, and generally kicking ass.

The thing about commercial producers is that all the awesome parts of their job (travel, hanging on set) I can do in Account Management. And with Account Management I also get to drive the project strategically and practice some of my b-school skillz by creating awesome competitive presentations (business school for those who aren't in the know). So I get the best of both worlds. A teeny bit of creativity, using my brain on a daily basis, and managing projects.

The only problem was having to start all over again, at a less than stellar salary and just hoping to be promoted by the time I'm 27 (AGH!). Its definitely a blow to the ego when 22 year olds are doing the exact same things I am (if not more) and I just hope this all pays off at some point, because I really have been working my butt off and I don't totally feel like I have much to show for that yet. I think this next year will definitely be the decider.

Seriously, how is it that this game brings out the worst in people?? Monopoly is hands down my favorite game from childhood but I haven't played it in 4 years because it just brings out the sore loser. The following is a true story:

Fall of senior year my roommates and my boyfriend at the time decided to play a friendly game of Monopoly. First off, good natured teasing is a must for all board games but down right in-your-face-you'd-think-I-was-3-years-old bragging is just annoying. So anyway, my now ex is cleaning up and I'm flat out losing which he's just loving and throwing in my face, real nice right? After a little while my friend Ian and I decide to pool our efforts and create a MONOPOLY, thus owning a ton of property and proceeding to build like 3 hotels on all of them. Needless to say, as soon as he starts to lose my ex flips his shit. Maybe if he'd actually finished college he'd understand the whole idea of MONOPOLY . . . oh wait, an 8 year old would understand. He proceeds to refuse to play anymore, call us all cheaters and storm off to my bedroom where he sulked for the rest of the night. I mean, COME ON! Sarah ended up winning but only because Sonya was sneaking her money from the bank, haha.

So long story short, I'm still down with Monopoly but other people just CAN'T HANG!

I'm on a "sabbatical" from the blog for this week and next due to work but I have to say something about this post on Fidgit, my trusty gaming blog. I'm warning you: this is LIFE CHANGING.

Old DOS LucasArts games are now available for download on STEAM. I'm seriously about to cry tears of joy. Especially because THE SECRET OF MOTHER FUCKING MONKEY ISLAND is going to be available July 15!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! SO HAPPY!!! July 15th will be the best day of my life.

I'm seriously at a loss for words. I have been desperately trying to bootleg some version of Monkey Island forever. The day we could no longer run DOS programs on our family computer was a black day in the Faux household. I've made my peace with the loss of Bagasaurus (there's a reason I'm a great speller) but I could never EVER let go of Monkey Island. Those pixelated images, pirate insults ("How appropriate, you fight like a cow!"), and Stan the used boat salesman have haunted my life. And now, in less than one week I can finally find salvation! There is a God, and as usual, his name is Lucas. Kudos, George, you have redeemed yourself in my eyes. I forgive you for your sins (Episodes I and II).

In Mary's defense, I AM friggin AMPED for this movie to come out! Tim Burton is maybe my favorite film maker of all time (shouldn't have ruined Star Wars George) and there is nothing I love more than classic fairytales with a bit of edge to them. Plus it has some of my favorite actors: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Crispin Glover. I hate that guy from Little Britain but whatever. I think its genius that Burton is filming live action but warping it just so, to truly make it the warped images of a girl lost inside her mind. Just read that it will be released in 3-D!!
